You’ve got to be kidding me

2 VERY famous people have died today.
Farrah Fawcett passed away after a brave battle with cancer. She was 62, and it had been rumoured for quite sometime that her condition had been worsening. I find it so sad that her longtime love, Ryan O’neal wanted the two of them to get married during her final days – they never got that chance. Her friend Alana Stewart, who knew Farrah for over 30 years said today, “she will always be there as that angel on the shoulder of everyone who loved her.”
The real shocker today, however, is the passing of Michael Jackson! According to www.tmz.com:
Michael suffered a cardiac arrest earlier this afternoon at his Holmby Hills home and paramedics were unable to revive him. We’re told when paramedics arrived Jackson had no pulse and they never got a pulse back.
The King of Pop was to return to the stage this summer in a series of concerts in London, England. Those shows sold out in record time a couple of months back. Michael Jackson, was only 50.
Clouds
Tuesday, June 23rd, 2009
Did you happen to look up around 1:00pm today? I saw the strangest looking clouds and I’ll admit that I immediately thought of that War of the Worlds movie with Tom Cruise. Remember when the sky looks as though it was going to fall on everyone, and then the aliens landed? They looked so surreal that I had to take a couple of pictures with my iphone and hit the google button on my computer.
The best explanation I could find (according to the internet, so it MUST be true) these clouds are called Mammatus clouds – and although they look ominous, they’re actually harmless. (There’s an old wive’s tail that says when you see these, get ready for a tornado – turns out that’s not the case) In fact, they usually appear when the worst of a storm has already passed. Now, there was no thunder boomer in my immediate area, but I did get a couple of rain drops on my newly cleaned car (I guess the rain is now technically my fault)
Another thing about these clouds? They are a rare example of clouds forming in sinking air. Now that I believe as I’ve never seen anything like these before! Spooky, huh?

Sunday is the 1st day of summer – and it’s finally starting to feel like it! Now I know we all like to be cool, and feel cool in the heat, but this might be pushing the envelope a little too far! Take a close look at this tank top!
Yes, that is actually a pair of underwear that’s been transformed into a tank top! I’m hoping this doesn’t become “what all the cool kids are wearing” anytime soon!

Burger

I’ve been seeing a bunch of recipe’s for Father’s Day – the idea being you can either cook for dad, or give him a hint (albeit a pretty strong hint if you’re actually passing him a recipe) about what you want for dinner on his special day.
Last night, I figured I would make the ultimate hamburger – perfect for dad’s day – or any day. I call it the Sirloin Jalepeno Bacon Burger. Billie Jo thought I should call it the Jay Burger. I don’t think that name inspires anyone to get the grill going. So, want to make the Sirloin Jalepeno Bacon Burger? Here’s what you’ll need.
1 package lean ground beef (ground round, chuck, bison – it’ll all work)
1 small sirloin strip steak cut up into tiny (very tiny) pieces
1 jalepeno pepper diced (don’t like it too hot? try removing the seeds – they’ve got most of the heat)
1 egg
1 package dry onion soup mix
1 tablespoon dijon mustard
1 small yellow onion
3 strips bacon (I like to toss some cracked black pepper and rosemary on my bacon while cooking for extra flavor)
Slice of Monterey Jack cheese
Mix ground beef and sirloin together with salt and pepper, peppers, dijon, egg and onion mix and form patties (4-5 good sized patties) Lay them out on wax paper on a cookie sheet and put in freezer for 5 minutes to help them set.
Caramelize the onions in a hot pan with some olive oil – get them nice and brown.
Grill the patties, add the cheese at the last minutes so it melts nicely, and put on a toasted bun with lettuce & tomato, the cooked bacon and the caramelized onions.
Grab a lot of napkins because this one’s gonna be juicy
Seriously, it was so good I had to take a picture!

Mommy Bunny

We’ve been talking about this rabbit who decided to have her baby right smack dab in the middle of my yard this past weekend. Did she not see the 60 pound Siberian Husky who lives there? I’m thinking it was a case of “this baby is coming NOW!!” and there was nothing she could do at the time. So, after some pretty impressive nest making, mommy and baby have literally moved in (although I haven’t seen baby since it’s birth, I do see the nest moving slightly from time to time.)
I had to share these pics with you…..here’s Mommy keeping baby warm:
Here’s how Sasha’s been spending ALL of her time on the deck…seriously, she doesn’t even blink!
And here’s a pic that pretty much sums up just how brave this bunny is:
Good thing Sasha’s getting older, and she’s not as fast as she used to be. Oh, and yes, I know I need to stain my deck – I need 2 days without rain!!!!

THOR

UPDATE: Thor’s been found! Thanks to everyone for their help
Thor’s this gorgeous brown lab you see in the picture below. He was in an SUV that was stolen (go figure, a vehicle stolen in Winnipeg??!!) at the Grant Park Shopping Centre Monday evening. Thor’s “mom” Aimee (who’s 8 months pregnant and needless to say a little stressed) had just parked and locked the vehicle for 15 minutes so she could run in and get her beloved dog some treats when the animals (pun intended) stole the SUV along with Thor.
Aimee and her boyfriend Ryan are desperate to get the dog back. Thor’s a part of their family – in fact, since Aimee found out she was pregnant, he’s been her protector, never leaving her side for a moment for all these months. If you think you see him please call 255-6022. He’s wearing a collar with his name and phone number, and there is a reward offered for his safe return.
I feel for these two, as I know I’d be lost without my dog Sasha. Please keep your eyes open? Thanks!

Catch the Tony Awards Sunday night? Doogie was pretty funny, Elton John’s Billy Elliot won 10 awards, and Bret Michaels got taken out by a piece of the stage – check this out!
Bret, apparently, was a good sport about it backstage. He wiped blood from his fractured nose with a towel, and managed to get his picture taken with Liza Minelli before getting stitches in his lip!
