Stop Calling Me!!! **UPDATE**

Monday, September 29th, 2008

There’s nothing worse. You sit down for dinner, and the phone rings. It’s not a friend, not a family member – it’s a telemarketer!
Have you heard about Canada’s National Do Not Call List?
Starting tomorrow, September 30, you can sign up to reduce the number of telemarketing calls you receive.
When you sign up to have your cellular, home phone or fax number included on it, companies making unsolicited marketing or sales calls can no longer contact you.
Registering is simple. Starting September 30, 2008, call 1-866-580-DNCL (866-580-3625) or just click here and follow a few easy steps. That’s it: your number will be on the List.
You know there’s a bit of a loophole here…..
You can say no to telemarketers, but you can still get calls from researchers, pollsters, and government agencies. Of course, they all call during dinner hour too, but at least it’s a start.

**Kathy Kennedy just turned me on to a new site that will actually expand the current Do Not Call List, just click here for more on that.**

Random Thoughts

Thursday, September 25th, 2008

I couldn’t think of just one topic today, so I thought I’d throw a few at you.

Dancing with the stars…..

Brooke has to be from another planet. She’s had 4 kids – one of which is only 6 months old!!!! (Mind you, she used to be married to a plastic surgeon.) Oh, and she’s a pretty good dancer too!

How adorable is Cloris? 82 years young and a spitfire!!! I hope the viewers keep her around for a very long time – I love her!!!

My Mom…..

I’m so proud of her for joining a gym last week! She’s gone 3 or 4 times already and she already feels better! She’s got her first workout with a personal trainer coming up too. She says she wants to lose “the rolls” before we vacation in Cuba over Christmas. Way to go Lainee!!!! Now, if only I could find the motivation to get back to the gym – I’m working on it!

Martini Mingle……

I can’t believe this is less than a week away! $25 gets you in to the party – all the proceeds to the CIBC Run for the Cure (which we’re hosting once again Sunday Oct. 5th)

This is going to be a fun night – not only am I dusting off the “pink party shirt” but you’ve got a chance at having your very own martini on the Hu’s on First menu for an entire year – with a dollar from every one sold going to the CBCF.

Stuck on a recipe idea? Try this: Skyy vodka in a glass garnished with bacon. Seriously. Bacon. It’s the latest rage. Call it the “bacon-tini.” Send your recipe ideas and get your tickets right here

Fall is here……

The leaves are changing – which is okay if they stay on the trees long enough! I’m already driving through a pile of them everyday in my back lane :(

Oh, and not many days left to enjoy my motorcycle. Guess I’ll wrap this up and go for a quick cruise.

Enjoy the sun!

Tackle Box

Tuesday, September 23rd, 2008

The past couple days I’ve been doing some fall cleaning around the house.

Washing walls, scrubbing floors, weeding thru old clothes in the closet…I admit it feels pretty good. Cuz the other 364 days a year I’m more of a surface cleaner;)
I’ve even gone so far as to clean out my earring/necklace/bracelet drawer. I live alone so I’m fortunate enough to have one of these drawers.

Earlier in the week I was looking for some kind of craft kit or divider to keep my jewellery somewhat organized. There’s nothing more aggravating than opening that drawer to find 6 pairs of beads, a pair of earrings and a bracelet in a BIG BALL! Not to mention time consuming.

Anyways, I looked at a few things and finally decided on a small clear fishing tackle box. It’s perfect…it fits neatly in my drawer, the dividers are expandable and each piece of jewellery has its spot. And the best part? It only cost me $4 @ Walmart. What a deal. Try it.

Dog Calls 911, Saves Owner…For the Third Time

When Buddy the dog saw that his master was having a seizure, he knew exactly what to do.The 18-month-old German shepherd had been trained by Paws With A Cause to bring his owner the phone and bring it to him whenever he is in trouble. When Buddy picks up the phone, his teeth make contact with the 911 button on speed dial.

The 911 emergency operator could hear Buddy whimpering and barking, and sent an ambulance to the address.

This is the third time Buddy has had to call 911 for his master, who suffers potentially life-threatening seizures as a result of a head injury suffered while serving in the military.

Isn’t he gorgeous?

Emmy’s

Monday, September 22nd, 2008

Other than the long (and awkward) beginning the show wasn’t so bad – I might have been a little hard on it this morning.

Some highlights?

-Christina Applegate looked AMAZING!

-Ricky Gervais getting his Emmy from Steve Carell – it was uncomfortably funny!

-Mad Men and 30 Rock both won awards (2 of my favorite shows)

-Seeing Lawrence Fishburne and William Peterson together on stage got me really excited about the upcoming season of CSI as “Larry” will be taking over with “Gil” leaves the show in a few weeks.

Oh, and were you singing along with Josh Groban and all of those TV songs too? This is worth a 2nd look – and good on Josh for stepping outside of his comfort zone, and showing us a different side of his personality!

Snapped in 1/2

Friday, September 19th, 2008

I had the Ladies Who Launch Fall Blast off Thursday night @ the Gates. It was beautiful that day(+29)so I decided to wear a dress. Meaning, I had to shave my legs.

With the cooler weather the last couple weeks I hadn’t bothered(I was back to wearing pants anyhow) Let’s just say, I had a bit of winter growth happening there. I can hear Jay now saying, “Beej, too much information. That’s gross!”

I quickly jumped in the shower…started to shave my legs and SNAP! My razor snaps right in 1/2. Ouch. I ended up with a big gash on my leg…no need for stitches, but it still hurt. And what kind of razor snaps in 1/2?

I know what you’re thinking. Was it a plastic Bic razor that comes in a plastic bag of 24? No! It was one of those Venus…triple glide, double edge blade, vibrating head..Crazy huh?

Maybe I was reefing on it? Maybe it was a faulty razor? Or maybe it’s a sign I need to shave my legs more often. ha

PS-The Ladies Who Launch Event @ the Gates was amazing. Inspiring, inspirational and perfect for women who want to start their own business or need some guidance in what they want to do when they grow up:)

Missing Children

Thursday, September 18th, 2008

This is so sad with these 2 little children…brother and sister, Abby, 6 & Dominic, 7. They’ve been missing since the end of August when their father didn’t return them from a visit. Their mom Emily came forward yesterday asking for the public’s help – she’s obviously beside herself, hoping the kids are okay, and worried about what their father might do. The police have issued an arrest warrant, but they have yet to find him, or the children. Please check out this website and have a look – you never know, you could be the person who brings these kids home, where they belong.

Seasonal Friends?

Wednesday, September 17th, 2008

I have a few really close g’friends back in Sk(you know the ones) You’ve grown up with them. They know you better than you know yourself. You can pick up the phone and call them any time of the day. Whether you’re at your highest or hit rock bottom they are always there to listen. They know everything about you and still like you:) I have wonderful friends that I’ve met here in Winnipeg and they too will be friends forever.

Then I have my seasonal friends. But why are they only seasonal friends? My curling & golf friends are wonderful. The moment we met, we hit it off….we laugh, we gossip, we get caught up on each others families, friends, jobs and we solve the worlds problems(of course we do).
We are true FRIENDS!

We’ve tried to get together in the off season..but someone’s always busy or something comes up.
I guess it’s kind of bothering me because today is the last day of Chicks with Sticks..sooo I will be saying goodbye to my golfing friends.

THAT’S IT!!!! Enough excuses. I’ve decided to keep in better touch with both my golfing and curling friends.

I’m putting my foot down..No more seasonal friends.

My NEW Crush

Tuesday, September 16th, 2008

Forget about George Clooney…Brad Pitt, McDreamy, Mark Messier. My latest crush NEIL DIAMOND!!

He sang hit after hit Sunday night @ the MTS Centre.
-Cherry Cherry
-Forever In Blue Jeans
-Kentucky Women
-You don’t bring me flowers
-Song Sung Blue
-Play Me
-I am I said
-Sweet Caroline (not once but twice)

He touched every single person in the crowd..I couldn’t help but notice a few fans crying during what must’ve been a song with deep meaning.

A friend of mine summed it up perfectly…he was expecting cheesy…but instead got classy.

He’s a tiny man surrounded by a 14 piece band with a gravelly voice that can’t help but pull you in. I loved it!

Change of Plan

Monday, September 15th, 2008

I’m currently sitting in my back yard with my dog Sasha enjoying a beautiful afternoon.

I was going to blog about how going to the movies these days just isn’t the same for me anymore. Sure the popcorn is good, but I have a hard time enjoying it when the person behind me is a loud eater (why do people have to chew with their mouth’s open in public??!!) or they end up talking on their cell phone for the entire film. No, I’d rather just watch movies at home these days.

Anyway, I thought that topic was a little boring, to be honest. Then, just a moment ago, I heard a plane flying overhead (which isn’t a strange thing in my neighborhood as I live along the landing approach) that sounds different than most. I look up and what do I see? 2 Snowbird’s on their way to land here in Winnipeg. There’s something about seeing those planes that just makes me so proud to be Canadian.

I got thinking back to Thursday’s show. A listener called in and asked if Billie Jo and I could play her a song. It was a special day for her as she was on her way to pick up her husband, who was returning from his 6 month tour in Afghanistan. Can you imagine how excited she was to see the love of her life? I asked her to thank him on our behalf for wearing the uniform, and I thought about all of those brave men and women around the world – away from their families – making so many sacrifices to keep us all safe and sound. Those people are just amazing to me.

To think, this was happening on the 7th anniversary of the 9-11 terrorist attacks in the U.S. Isn’t it incredible how the world has changed since then, and just how many sacrifices have been made?

To anyone who has served, or will serve…..thank you.
