2cm’s

Wednesday, May 28th, 2008

One of my g’friends in Sk is having a baby. Her first baby. Her due date is June 4th. I sound selfish in saying this, but I hope she has it within the next few days..Why? Because I’m flying to Sk for the weekend.

I called her last night for an update. It’s no secret I have no children and know just what I need to know as far as child birth is concerned. She told me last night she’s 2cm. “Ohhhh, that’s great” I said..not really knowing if that is great. When I got off the phone with her I googled 2cm dilated(I felt like a complete loser doing so) Anyways…I googled it only to find out she could potentially have the baby today or 8 days from now. I think I’ll e-mail or call her today and tell her to start walking…that’s suppose to bring on labour (learned that with my google search too) ‘cuz I really want to see this little girl:) I’m very excited!!! Can’t you tell?

MPI Immobilizer’s

Tuesday, May 27th, 2008

They’ve updated the list of vehicles required to install an MPI approved immobilizer.

Thankfully, my car’s been designated as “low risk” which means I don’t have to install an after market immobilizer. I’ve always said, if they take my car, I don’t want it back! I’ve had my car broken into (and I LOVE my car) and I seriously felt violated! It just wasn’t the same after that – I know, it’s only a car, but I spent a lot of time (and money) to get it just the way I want it.

Has anyone had any problems with these immobilizer’s?

Are you on the list? Find out here.

A BIG thank you

The lost Pips

Thursday, May 22nd, 2008

David Cook is the new American Idol!!! It’s no secret that he’s been my favorite Idol hopeful all season. I actually sat through the ENTIRE 2 hour show last night, and I’m glad I did otherwise I would have likely missed this “lost footage” of Gladys Knight and the Pips. Funny!

Mutt’s New Woman?

Thursday, May 22nd, 2008

Ever since news broke that Shania Twain and her husband of 14 years “Mutt” Lange split up, we’ve all been wondering “what happened??!!!”
Well, we first told you yesterday that there’s apparently another woman! Ever since then, everyone I know’s been saying “what does she look like?” After all, how could any man leave Shania Twain? She’s Shania Twain!!! (Even though, obviously, we’re not privy to their personal lives and what really went on in their relationship)
Well, here’s the first pic of this mystery woman. Her name is Marie-Anne ThiĆ©baud, 37, a longtime secretary and house manager at Twain and Lange’s estate in Switzerland. She’s apparently also left her husband to be with Mutt.

Seriously? Tuesday Already?

Tuesday, May 20th, 2008

Is it just me, or do those long weekends go by way to fast? Maybe it’s true, the older you get, the faster the time flies.
I got caught up in some “garage sale fever” on Saturday. Let me just start by saying I’ve never really got it. I’ve never understood the need to get up early on a weekend and hit the streets to look through other people’s junk. I even know a lot of people that literally map out their day the night before!
That being said, 2 of my neighbors were having a sale on Saturday, and my one neighbor asked if he could use my old patio table to display his junk, er, I mean stuff on. I said to him “why not take the table, along with the old umbrella and the old 4 chairs that I no longer want (as I have had the new patio set now for over a month and didn’t really know what to do with the old set) and see if you can sell it and we’ll split the profits?
Guess what? That old set sold in about 10 minutes for $40! I couldn’t belive it!
My neighbor then asked if I had anything else to sell. Sure enough, I’m expecting a new dining room set to be delivered this week and didn’t have a clue what I was going to do with the old set…..so I grabbed the wrench, took the table apart, hauled it and the 4 chairs across my alley and wouldn’t you know it? Within 15 minutes it too had sold!
I’m pretty sure not all sales go this good! I’m 2 for 2 – and now officially retired from the world of garage sales. At least until my neighbors let me “piggyback” their next sale :)

Dangerous Treats

Tuesday, May 6th, 2008

I mentioned in an earlier blog about great healthy treats for dogs, and how it’s always a good idea to check with your vet before changing up your animal’s diet in any way. I went on to mention that some foods you would just assume to be healthy are, in fact, dangerous – grapes and raisins in particular. I got a response from a listener saying that she fed her dogs raisins all the time! This scared me a bit, and got me to do some more research into some other treats that could be extremely dangerous.
Here’s a looooong list:

-It has recently been confirmed that grapes and raisins can cause acute kidney failure in dogs.
-Onions, and to a significantly lesser extent garlic, contain thiosulfate which causes hemolytic anemia in dogs (and cats). Occasional exposure to small amounts is usually not a problem, but continuous exposure to even small amounts can be a serious threat. Garlic is also known to cause diarrhea and vomiting.
-Macadamia nuts can cause stiffness, tremors, hyperthermia, and abdominal pain.
-Hops, a plant used in making beer, can cause malignant hyperthermia in dogs, usually with fatal results. Even small amounts of hops can trigger a potentially deadly reaction, even if the hops are “spent” after use in brewing.
-Xylitol is a sugar substitute used in chewing gum, chewable vitamins, candy, toothpaste, and other products. There have been cases of foods, candies and gums containing xylitol causing toxic or even fatal liver damage in dogs and should be avoided.
-If dogs eat the pits of fruits such as peaches and apricots, they can get cyanide poisoning due to cyanogenic glycosides.

I’m sure there are many more (you do know that chocolate is deadly to dogs?) and I’ll try to update this as we go along. In the meantime, keep your pup safe :)

Healthy Dog Treats

Friday, May 2nd, 2008

Thanks to Nina for giving me some healthy dog treat ideas…..asparagus( the woody part we break off), broccoli florets/stems, cauliflower florets/stems, celery( the only thing my dog will not eat),chick peas (drain a can and keep them in the fridge for a quick doggie snack), cucumbers, peppers, radishes, zucchini and tomato. All these foods are low on the glycemic index which is the rate at which food breaks down into sugar in the bloodstream. These foods use as much energy to chew and digest as they provide, as well as great vitamins and fibre, so very healthy choices, good for people too!

My Sasha loves veggies. She used to sneak into my garden and eat the cucumbers :)

Remember, it’s always a good idea to check with a vet before changing your dog’s diet. There are seemingly healthy foods that dogs shouldn’t eat like grapes & raisins – these can be, in fact, deadly to dogs.
